I tried in vain to find much on the place. The only thing I know is that Elizabeth An is very much into fashion, glamor, image, drama, etc. I can only speculate and observe that the molecular gastronomy twist makes for an amazing and unique fashion accessory to Anqi proper.

Let me know if you decide to go!

I was thinking of heading over here too (interestingly, because of that very same Gayot article).

The consensus is that Anqi's standard fare is subpar, so it's curious that we have this "restaurant within a restaurant"--reminds me of Minibar. Any insight as to why Anqi was set up this way?

Comment on Thoughts on the "Traveling (Pop-Up) Restaurant" Trend in LA: Hatchi at Breadbar, Ludobites, etc.

Hi Minty,
Sorry I am so late in responding, your comment got stuck in my spam folder and I just found it. Good to know that I was not crazy, that food was awful!

Sorry for my late reply - just found this in my spam folder. Thanks for the support, I am glad to hear I am not the only blogger who is not happy with this whole popup trend. The eaterla votes were a disgrace. Winners are Chefs without restaurants, restaurants without chefs. I am finally going to test kitchen tonight (have not gone yet) just so I can speak to it from a personal perspective.
It's a huge case of cognitive dissonance along with exhibition crowd mentality; "Everyone's here, it must be good". "It's a $100/pp dinner, it must be good". "The room is packed, everyone's boisterous & drunk, the meal must be great". Nay man. The restaurant fare served by the same chef tends to taste better, more congruent, with far superior service, laxed and proper pacing, ad nausea.

This "trend" needs to end. Testing Kitchen's entire concept is a falsehood. If the chefs are so good, get a space ,and a real reservation system, so we can enjoy tranquil meals at our own discretion.

Comment on Thoughts on the "Traveling (Pop-Up) Restaurant" Trend in LA: Hatchi at Breadbar, Ludobites, etc.

u r not alone! I am sorry to say we did NOT like the it. Granted, it had been sitting with you for 20 minutes but I know how that flatbread should have been. I've seen Walter demo it. If you read my blog, you can watch the video I've taken previously.

Like you, I am frustrated by foodies who act like sheep. Service was very bad that night and always has been for these Hatchi pop ups. Most people I talked to did not like the ravioli.

As for the light box at the Royal/T Ludobites popup, I have told Ludo I didn't want to use it because I didn't like the sterility of the photos.
